demography
Using semi-structured interviews we have been recording marital and reproductive histories with Himba men and women since 2010. These interviews also include information on child-rearing, household dynamics, education, health and wealth. |
child health
Using interview and anthropometric data we have been studying how local cultural practices affect children's health and well-being. This has included work on fosterage and child marriage, as well as more general work on the causes of infant and child mortality. |
reproductive health
Through interviews and focus groups we have been studying women's reproductive decisions, including the timing of births, knowledge and use of contraception, and fertility preferences. We have also studied the importance of learning and support during the perinatal period. |
social networks
We have been conducting household-level interviews to determine how people are connected to one another and how social connectivity relates to measures of health and well-being. |
